The Nokia N900 will be available in select markets from October 2009 with an estimated retail price of EUR 500 excluding sales taxes and subsidies. The Nokia N900 will be displayed at Nokia World, Stuttgart, on September 2.

Looks really good. As a linux fan, something I would be interested in, except no mention of wifi.
Having owned an N95, not having wifi would be a deal breaker.
By trigpoint on Aug 31, 2009
It if only had 8 megapixel camera + xenon flash. And please get rid off that qwerty, it’s useless when you have 3.5” screen, it just makes the whole phone too bulky. Oh, and why it has TFT-screen and not AMOLED?? So close to be perfect device.
By Belle on Aug 31, 2009
when will it be released in canada? and how much?
By dee on Sep 1, 2009
arghhh, 600MHz processor… why not snapdragon 1Ghz…
By rolly on Sep 2, 2009
Anyone know if this will be truly as open as they claim? What parts will be closed/unchangeable ?
Nokia’s has traditionally had a once off product attitude to most of their phones in the past (i.e. good luck getting any functionality updates 6 months after launch). Prime example is my E70
I really really hope with the N900 that they switch to an ongoing fully open, fully hackable platform.
The only thing that should prevent an N900 owner from running the latest OS release on their phone for years into the future should be hardware resource limitations.
If they can’t make that transition, then I certainly wouldn’t touch the phone. May as well just go with an Android dev phone or IPhone. An unsupported “open” phone is not much better than a closed phone. After the E70, I swore to never touch another Nokia phone, but with Maemo platform being “open”, I am considering the N900.
Please don’t screw this up Nokia…

Omfgwtfroflbbqshapes!!eleventeenone!
Goodbye pc. Hello the world of mobile computing. =D
If as already mentioned this thing gets the support an ‘open’ system promises this is going to be a landmark phone.
….and my new phone

How different people see the perfect device..
“get a 8MP camera with Xeon flash and drop the qwerty keyboard”
hmm then I wouldnt buy it..
“drop the camera, make room for a better keyboard and battery”
then i would by it..
Now i also will buy it now but i really really really dont care about the camera, i still dont get why people really care about camera’s on phones, i have 1 on my E90 that i have now for 2 years, but i can count on 2 hands the number of times i press the camera button i think…
Common its nice that you can take some pictures but a 3MP (or 5 if you want) is really enough.
If you want to take photo’s then take a dslr camera as your big thing and a good compact camera (and then a a Micro four-thirds camera) for you other work for really taking photo’s for print or your other stuff.
Camera phones are just for quick and dirty picturs for the internet to share.
just look for once at this picture:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sensor_sizes_overlaid_inside.svg
that should say enough..
By jcompagner on Sep 6, 2009
I completly agree with jcompagner
Drop camera make keypad better….!!
Now digi camera coming at good cost person whu is willing 2 purchase 500euros mobile dsnt care for a digi cam!!
By Umang on Sep 8, 2009
i disagree with jcompagner.
i would love a 8mp camera but with a nicer keyboard too.
the reason why many people including myself, mainly people under 30 love camera phones is because 1, WE DONT HAVE TO CARRY A MOBILE + AN EXTRA CAMERA IN OUr BAGS!!! iam a female and i only carry small tiny purses/ clutch bags mostly as i hate big bags!! it normally only fits my phone, keys, and lipgloss most of the time. not even my wallet so i just put some notes inside my bag without my wallet. lol
so tell me.. for most females like me. what do you think is your solution? carry my bag and carry an extra camera around my neck too or resort to buying a bigger crap looking bag? lol
anyway. if you are more into the business side of smartphones.. then why not just buy a blackberry? they have a great keyboard and they dont have camera’s. isnt that your market and what you want and looking for?
also i use my phone camera alot. most young people under 30 do. i do not use the shots for crap cheap dirty photos to post online as i dont even have facebook or myspace or bebo. **dont use them due to my stalker ex anymore** lol so i pretty much have nowhere to put it online. i use the phone camera for heaps of things and everyday life, like if i go shopping. i cant pick which $900 jacket to buy.. its $900 aoi want to make sure it looks right on me.. so i take pics of me in it in the changerooms so i can make my mind up later or ask my friends which 1 looks better on me so i can make a smart purchase. i also do not want the quality of it to be bad/crap like 1.3 or 2mp because then u cant really tell or see details, so even just to do that, i need a good quality camera.
for me i’d love to have a very good quality camera in my phone although i know its a longshot. i own a n95 and n96 and both very good but would love one a step up camera wise.
also its kinda wierd for someone to be carrying a camera 24/7 just incase you feel or want to take photo’s unless you are a professional photographer.
By trymeout on Sep 16, 2009
I like this mobile very much. I want to buy it. I am from mumbai. Till me how much it cost.
By Sagar on Sep 18, 2009
but can it send mms,the tech specs say picture sharing is that mms?..i didnt get the iphone cos it cant send mms
By jonathan on Sep 19, 2009
I totally agree with you Trymeout. I just got married and would take pics of flower arrangements and bridesmaid dresses but even before that I used the 5megapixel on my N95 all the time. It was the only thing in my Jacket pocket when I went snowboarding. Good thing cuz I got some good pics of a dear friend who passed away a few months later. I do the same thing. I go to stores and take pics so I know what to buy or if I need someone else to make a decision about something I snap a pic and send it to them. My husband has a digital SLR and he NEVER takes it anywhere because it is so baulky. Thankfully I have my N95. The 5pixel camera is actually why I bought the N95. Oh Goodness if there was 8 I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
By Camera rocks on Sep 21, 2009
It looks like a really good phone. I would like to get but this time I will wait for a while before doing it. Last time I bought the N85 very soon after release and it was )it still is) very unstable, crashes and reboots all the time and there is no Nokia global warranty and the firmware releases taje too long to fix the problems. I hope this improves with this new phone.
By Fernando on Sep 21, 2009
The Camera form N900 processes geotags? Ie,
this is recorded in JPEG format with Geotag for use in GIS ?
Thanks,
Marcelo Mendes Fernandes.
By Mukurype on Sep 22, 2009
181 grams?? Thanks very much but no…
By heavyweight on Sep 22, 2009
I like this phone….its great and has a lot of good things….
All the commentaries are about camera, but is this camera or internet tablet with additional camera?
of that they do not make 8MGPX camera…….
I used to have many nokia phones smartphone and is very cool, cuz it’s like little computer in your pocket…
n900 it’s nice i think so
By vadimzara on Sep 23, 2009
Oh, and when will it be released in Ukraine?
By Lyudmila on Sep 23, 2009
Remember, this thing is based on the line that started with the N770, an internet tablet. The openness of those devices is pretty nice with only some binary kernel modules if I remember correctly. With the new features over the N810 this thing will rock and probably will have a swarm of developers porting and making software for it. If I can scrounge up the money (and it’s available in Canada) I hope to be one of them.

a mini cd drive rest for this computer.
By david on Sep 27, 2009
This looks like a great phone; however lack of wifi will be a delabreaker for me. As for the camera, that one of the big pluses of this thing IMO. I use mine as a portable scanner; I dont think its far off to think someone will write some OCR software for phones like this. I’m in IT and I need a QWERTY keyboard and a good display, not one or the other but both.
By Brian on Sep 27, 2009
it does have wi-fi!
By zod on Sep 29, 2009
I think this looks like a great phone. I’ve been thinking of buying one myself. And of course it has wifi, what else would you expect from an internet tablet successor.
By Magnus on Sep 29, 2009
guys…
what do you think…
which better i phone 4.0 G (i don’t know what time exactly will be published)
or this phone (will publish this Oct)
or just wait for this brother n 920?
By stuck_cow on Sep 30, 2009
To the folks (I count two so far) who have complained about lack of WiFi, I offer the following, being the last line in the “Data Network” specification:
Maximum speed PS 10/2 Mbps (DL/UL) WLAN IEEE 802.11b/g
I’m pretty sure that’s WiFi.
By [Blocked by CFC] Viqsi on Oct 2, 2009
But still miss ESC on keyboard. Is very important key. Putty,… We will still must use software keyboard.
But I love N900 and linux.
By MiNe_EU on Oct 6, 2009
Loads of people complain about the camera.
5MP is low blabla.. It’s not the amount of MP that makes a good quality photo.
Nokia made a great deal with carl zeis and the quality of most Nserie phones with 5MP is way better than the 8MP series of sony ericsons and samsung phones.
More isnt allways better.
About the N900. I got used to symbian but i am looking forward for linux. Im curious how linux is going to be on the first linux phone.
Also i saw some videos on the internet i really love the speed of this little machine

Will the N900 operate on the US AT&T network for voice and data?
By WDT on Oct 12, 2009
Nokia N900 is going to be tough competition other phones
By Nokia N900 on Oct 13, 2009
You should mention that till now there does not seem to be support for AlternateLineService (ALS) in the Maemo phone app.
This will be quite an issue for people which are subscribed to the Rogers business line/ Orange Line2, e.g.
By noservice on Oct 13, 2009
Why this crap not have WiFi
By kama on Oct 17, 2009

By Nobody on Oct 19, 2009
Hey what happened to opening office attachments and not to mention pdfs in the N900. some N97 features is missing. If a pico projecter is integrated into it. Then WOWOWOWOWOWO… you got a killer. :=D
By Joy on Oct 22, 2009
Guys … you did scared me …
Why say that N900 does not have WiFi … clearly it has:
WLAN support
802.11b/g
WEP
WPA
WPA2 (AES/TKIP)
By e_lm_70 on Oct 23, 2009
2 years ago I bought the n810 which is a great device. I knew it was missing one thing and that was cellular capability. My girlfriend is at school 500 miles away and I need a phone with video chatting capability to better keep in touch with her. I will deffiantly be picking up this phone when it comes out. Even though I’ll have to switch from verizon to tmobile.
The n900 will work on ATT network but it will not support ATTs 3G. Tmobile is the only 3G carrier in the US that will support this phone. Theres talk about tmobile picking up this phone but nothing is finalized.
By Rick on Oct 25, 2009
and in specific comments about the specs:
-phone does have wifi
-the phone has 2 cameras one on the front and a 5mp camera on the back (I believe the front camera is the same as the n810 but it might be upgraded im not sure)
everything else I believe has been said already
By Rick on Oct 25, 2009
@Rick, and the front camera is for video calling? or for what specifically?
By Jhonny on Oct 26, 2009
I’m not sure what else it can be used for, but I was told you can use it for video calling by a nokia rep.
By Rick on Oct 26, 2009
I love this Phone.
Well done Nokia
Keep it up //

I`m really crazy about this baby!thought of buying a new laptop but really whats the use of buying one when I could as well get a computer,Tv,Fm transmitter, navigater, vedio player,mp3,smart phone………………….etc all in my pocket! I luuuuv this baby.
By nana on Nov 13, 2009
The N900 does have Wi-fi, they probably just forgot to mention it
By Robin on Nov 14, 2009
Ca simeone please let me know when this phone will be on the market? And I hope Nokia will not make us regret once this phone is available. I use N85 and it is very embarrassing that I cannot play music on it without having to reboot the phone all the time. Also, they should try and make all the office applications on it free without having to subscribe to it or more importantly, they should incorporate a free windows for us instead of this useless OVI which is more of a hassle using it. And lastly, they should make it possible for us to convert the videos from MP4 to MP3.
By Huhuhuguy on Nov 14, 2009
Built-in FM transmitter…what does this mean? With other Nokia phone, you need to connect a headset to have the radio working, will this change?
By Fernand on Nov 15, 2009
FM transmitter is different from FM Radio. It is used to transmit the song played at your phone at the frequency specified by you. It transmits to a short range. It is useful when you are travelling cars, you can play the music from your phone to car’s FM Radio.
By Ganesh on Nov 28, 2009
This phone looks so so so soooooo good.

I’ve pre-ordered it, like a month ago, and im SICKKK of it being held back, but then if they’re making it better, then I’ll wwaitt
This phone is litterally a pc, and the camera is good, 5mp, jeez that’s a good cam, as somebody said above, 8mp on sony erricson is crap compared to 5mp on nokia, true!
Like, the new sony erricson, with a 12mp, youy sayin that’ll be the same quality photos as my 8mp DSLR? lol NERR. It completely depends on what the phone/camera is.
I know nokia’s cams are always good quality.
This phone is gonna top the smart phone charts, I think it’ll be in another league completely
thanks nokia!
By Rebekahk on Dec 3, 2009
Wow! I never liked the Nokia phones and just wanted to buy a Palm Pre but I’m totally excited about this phone! It’s running a smaller version of Debian Linux!!! Wow! That’s amazing! It really is quite literally a Mobile COMPUTER.
lol
The web browser runs the latest flash, java and other scripts just like your desktop computer…
I WANT ONE NOW

I am really interested in how many contacts this phone can handle. At this moment I have a HTC touch HD which can handle my 5000+ professional contacts. I’ve read that the Iphone can only handle about 1000 contacts. I am really interested in the Nokia N900 and would like to hear your advice…

I was looking at http://www.maemocommunity.com and this phone is great, you can install windows and even mac os x on it!!! There are lot of applications for this platform. Looking to see Maemo 6 newt year!

How do I synchronise with my HP Lap top. I want to transfer some files and docs. Can somebody tell me?? When I connect N900 with lap top it does not connect as it says driver missing. How do I download driver from Nokia site for N900??.
To save battery: Secure your device if not in use and make sure the internet/web/or any active application is not connected !! Remove unnecessary shortcuts from screen and make display less bright. You can then have 12 hr battery duration. I did this and could prolong my battery.
